Introduces ‘Pick Me Box’ initiative to help needy students
Noklak, October 13 (MExN): All the government schools under Nokhu Range jurisdiction in Noklak districts are facing shortages of teachers while a GPS school building was completed by villagers, informed the apex students’ body from the range.
As per the Nokhu Range Students’ Union (NRSU), the discovery was made during its 1st Phase Educational Tour for the year 2022-2023 of government schools within the Nokhu Range Jurisdiction under Noklak district from October 10-13.
Under the theme, “Redefining Responsibilities,” the union visited 5 Government Schools and discovered “undeniably pathetic conditions,” informed a press release from the NRSU.
Among others, problems of teacher shortage in all school while there were insufficient classrooms as well as inadequate blackboard and whiteboard, it said.
There were also irregularities among of “non-native teachers,” it highlighted.
As per NRSU Education Secretary Tangmong, the worst case was in Government Primary School, Kingpao, whose school building construction was never been fully funded and the existing building was constructed by the villagers, the union added.
Meanwhile, during the tour, the NRSU provided a wall clock to each school to signify the necessity of efficient time management.
In a first in the region, the union also introduced “Pick Me Box” - a free-will donation box to help those students who struggles to buy basic study materials.
The NRSU also urged the institutions to materialise and effectively implement initiative.
To ensure collectively responsibility the union through a consensual agreement adopted that the local churches under its jurisdiction should conduct a prayer for the students and teachers at school premises once in every month, it informed.
NRSU President, P Shingnya appealed the concern Department and the State Government to genuinely look into the conditions of government schools in the village.
During the tour, the union also held meeting with the concerned village council, school management committee, teaching faculties, church leaders and local students’ body to discuss the matter and issues faced by the institutions and aurged all the organisations to collectively shoulder the responsibilities in moulding the students.
