Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): Reiterating its demand for the dismissal of the NPF-led DAN government, the NPCC stressed on the moral responsibility of the government to uphold law and order. In yet another press release, the NPCC has said that it is, in fact, the NPF that is trying to politicize the issue by refusing to own up to “the truth…that outsourcing the power of governance to a private agency was the genesis of 31st August unfortunate incident. It was the root cause of its aftermath.”
While appreciating the magnanimity of the deceased’s parents in the spirit of forgiveness, the NPCC release underlined the legal obligations of the government in setting up a one-man enquiry, proving that the legality of the issue does not end at forgiving. Thus, “the DAN government, led by Neiphiu Rio, owes a public apology to the people of Nagaland on the issue which they failed to do,” stated the release.
The Congress Party has accused the NPF’s reaction to it as being “devoid of any rationality” and has found NPF’s drawing parallel between civil societies and local self government by quoting Sec. 8 of 16-point agreement “most ridiculous”.
NPCC’s release has asked NPF’s press bureau to clarify the points it made earlier, further explaining, “Local self governments are legalized, elected institutions of governance provided with constitutional support. Devolution of State power to an elected local self government like municipality or village council by an Act under relevant sections of the Constitution is understandable but giving unbridled power to a non-accountable agency, on what they called trial basis, was unthinkable.”
Civil society, NGOs and pressure groups, as per the NPCC, play the role of keeping a check on the government. According to them, “the DAN government has reversed the role of the civil societies and that is where governance has gone wrong.” The release has persuaded that the people of Nagaland have the right to demand for the dismissal of the current government as the merit of the case is undisputable.
