NPCC president urges for reconciliation, public trust

Zunheboto District observes Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan

The Zunheboto District Congress Committee (ZDCC) observed the District-Level Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan (Save Constitution Campaign) at North Point, Zunheboto on May 17.

The event was hosted by Capt GK Zhimomi, Vice President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), and chaired by Vikato Zhimomi, President of ZDCC.

In the keynote address, MP and NPCC President S Supongmeren Jamir called for an end to suppression and emphasised the need for unity. “Let us reconcile among ourselves to resolve issues and work together to gain public trust. Until we show real effort, people will not follow us,” he said.

Christopher Tilak, AICC Secretary in charge of Nagaland, spoke on the hardships of travel across the state and the prevailing lack of infrastructure. “We have visited Mon, Longleng, Noklak, Tuensang, and Zunheboto for meetings, and it's clear that Nagaland faces a pathetic situation,” he said. “The government here is jobless, economy-less, road-less, hospital-less, school-less, and teacher-less. You may appear modern, but your economy is not.” He called for humility and human connection in politics, stating, “Politics is about connecting with human beings.”

In his speech, Khriedi Theunuo, Working President of NPCC, highlighted the legacy of the Indian National Congress, which has stood for around 138 years. He emphasized the importance of a national outlook paired with a regional mindset.

C. Apok Jamir, also a Working President of NPCC, described the campaign not just as a form of protection but as a movement. He expressed the party’s preference for manual ballot paper polling over electronic voting methods. “When opportunity comes, we must seize it,” he said.

Former ex-Minister Kheto Kinimi emphisasing the political situation in Nagaland, calling it non democratic. “How can all 60 MLAs belong to one ruling party? This is a monocracy where one entity rules,” he stated. He further questioned the viability of governance in Nagaland, citing the existence of 28 Naga political groups alongside the state and central governments. “Our Naga solution has now become an unsolution,” he remarked.

Earlier in the programme,  Agape Z. Chishi, Associate Pastor (Youth), SBCZ invoked god presence in the programme, welcome address delivered by Yanchamo Ovung, General Secretary, NPCC and District In-charge. Niholi Sumi, President of the Zunheboto District Mahila Congress (ZDMC), felicitated the guest during the event and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ananu S. Zhimomi, General Secretary of ZDCC.
