Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has issued a press statement respectfully countering the criticism of K Therie regarding the recent consultative meeting on the Naga political issue.
Therie had labeled the meeting as “futile and a waste,” a characterization that the NPCC disagrees with.
The NPCC acknowledged that while there are shared concerns, it believes that these concerns underscore the importance of processes that foster consensus, transparency, and inclusivity. This philosophy guided their participation in the consultative meeting held on September 12 and their subsequent call for the disclosure of agreements between the Government of India and Naga Political Groups to the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) Members and civil society.
The NPCC recognized the significance of the agreements and the historical groundwork laid by previous central governments. Although not a direct party to the ongoing negotiations, the NPCC said it is committed to contributing as needed and urges the Government of India to expedite the implementation of these agreements.
Regarding the call for a new political interlocutor, the NPCC encouraged refraining from negative interpretations and unnecessary complications. They viewed the appointment as a potential means to enhance coordination and accountability rather than as a problematic development.
