The Naga People's Front (NPF) 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency (AC) held a consultative meeting at Bamboo Hall, Kisama, on June 13, with party leaders calling for unity, organisational strengthening and collective efforts towards an early resolution of the Naga political issue.
Addressing the gathering, Advisor for CAWD and MLA of 18th Chozuba AC Kudecho Khamo described the merger of the NDPP with the NPF as "God's divine plan" and urged party workers to place the interests of the party above personal considerations.
Highlighting the legacy of former Chief Minister Vamuzo Phesao, Khamo said Chozuba AC has inherited a rich political tradition and called on party members to uphold that legacy by working for the welfare and development of the people. He said the NPF remains the custodian of Naga political aspirations, culture, identity, traditions and faith, and urged party workers to rededicate themselves to strengthening the organisation.
The Advisor also stressed the need to continue supporting the leadership of Chief Minister and NPF president Dr. Neiphiu Rio for all-round development. He highlighted the "One Family, One Project", "One Family, One Entrepreneur" and "One Family, One Prayer Time" initiatives launched last year to empower families and improve livelihoods in the constituency. Khamo also urged citizens to cooperate in the upcoming Census 2027 exercise.
Former MLA and Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) Chairman Nuzota Swuro described the NPF as a regional party that must be strengthened to withstand political challenges. He said the Nagas are passing through a crucial period requiring strong leadership and expressed confidence in Dr. Rio's efforts towards an early resolution of the Naga political issue, the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) matter and other developmental concerns.
NPF Central Women Wing president Sano Vamuzo stressed the need for strategic planning and organisational strengthening, urging party leaders and workers to remain accommodative and broad-minded while serving the people.
NPF Central Office Bearers working president Pusazo Luruo said the merger of the NDPP with the NPF was undertaken in the larger interest of the Naga political issue. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the party since its inception and asserted that Dr. Rio remains committed to achieving an early political settlement. Describing Chozuba AC as a constituency of regional significance, he called for united efforts to strengthen the party without discrimination and encouraged people to focus on agriculture and allied sectors for economic upliftment.
Speeches were also delivered by Central Legal Cell convenor Dr. Povotso Lohe, 18th Chozuba AC working president Vezhosa Chuzho and former candidate Veprasa Nyekha, all of whom emphasised the need to strengthen the party and support its leadership.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by 18th Chozuba AC president Vevohü Epao. During the meeting, the house adopted several resolutions, including a commitment to work collectively to strengthen the party while supporting an honourable, acceptable and inclusive settlement of the Naga political issue. It also resolved to support and strengthen the leadership of Chief Minister and NPF president Dr Neiphiu Rio.
The meeting thanked Dr Rio for appointing leaders from the constituency to key positions, including Nuzota Swuro as NBDA chairman, Pusazo Luruo as working president of the Central Office Bearers, Sano Vamuzo as president of the Central Women Wing and Dr. Povotso Lohe as convenor of the Central Legal Cell.
