NPMHR cautions public on ‘engineered rumors’

DIMAPUR, JULY 14 (MExN): As per the Executive Council resolution dated 1 July 2006, NPMHR Secretariat Kohima, the human rights body has clarified the confusion generated by a press communiqué which appeared in some local news daily under caption such as ‘dissension within NPMHR’.

Pointing out that NPMHR is a human rights movement independent from any political affiliation or inclination and thriving on the spirit of understanding, good faith and consensus, a press communiqué issued by Lanu Longkumer Convenor, NPMHR Nagaland state sector, Neikesanuo Sorhie Co-Convenor, Delhi sector, Phamring Sengul Anal Convenor, NPMHR (South) and Nepuni Piku Secretary General, NPMHR Secretariat has cautioned the public that there are elements attempting to cause confusion in the minds of the public by engineering rumors.

“The press communiqué dated 24th of June 2006 posing as members of NPMHR, Delhi Unit is a clear case of such an attempt. The four point allegations labeled against NPMHR have no basis and it is only a game plan to create misunderstanding and friction within the organization and with others. The matter has been carefully examined collectively and we find that there is no authenticity in it”, the NPMHR clearly stated.

Making it clear that it was not aware of any such press communiqué issued by any of the NPMHR Sectors, it stated that such incidents are not new in society because of the situation that we are in. “But as a reminder to ourselves, we once again call upon to all to be aware of such rumor mongers who have been actively engaging in divisive politics. NPMHR as a democratic organization would like it to be known that it only strengthens our collective vision and mission”.

It also clarified that the NPMHR, Delhi (Sector) was made non-operational since the 24th of December 2005 “in the democratic interest of the NPMHR collective”. Nonetheless, it stated that the matter has been resolved on the 4th of June 2006 basing on the collective wisdom of the organization. It was subsequently made known to the public through newspapers on 14 June 2006 as well, it reminded.

The NPMHR also termed as most unfortunate the said press communiqué “attempting to strain our relationship with organizations that have shown commitment to the cause of the Nagas”. “In the larger interest of the Nagas’ cause and humanity, we have built and extended mutual solidarity among the struggle-based mass organizations and support organizations”, it stated while pointing out that it had taken decades to build trust and solidarity with the Indian civil society and it will go a long way in realizing our common goal and humanity.

“The press communiqué is nothing but to malign the image of the organization and to break the life-bond to disable us. We appeal to you all to be watchful of such conspirators”.

NPMHR also appealed to the press community not to publish such unauthorized statements for the larger interest of the public. “We stand firmly by our collective wisdom and we believe that we are all together”.
