Chümoukedima, September 28 (MExN): Newly elected Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) president Herole Y has called on the youth of Nagaland to participate more actively in public affairs and raise their concerns on employment, opportunities, privileges and skill development.
He was speaking at the NPYC Induction-cum-Thanksgiving Programme held at Premier Lodge, 4th Mile, Agri Expo, Chümoukedima, on September 26, marking the formal assumption of office by the newly elected NPYC leadership. Speaking after taking charge as president, Herole said he was taking up the responsibility "to serve, to listen, and to understand" while seeking to connect with the young people of Nagaland.
He said a stronger and more hardworking generation of Naga youth was emerging across the State, but pointed to inadequate platforms, facilities and employment opportunities as challenges facing them. Calling on young people to move beyond complacency, Herole urged them not to remain confined to their homes or limit themselves to expressing opinions from the sidelines. "Step forward and participate," he urged the youth, calling for greater engagement in public affairs and for young people to directly raise their concerns with the government.
The programme was preceded by a victory rally from the residence of NPCC senior leader, PCC member from Ghaspani-I and NPYC advisor Nagavito Sumi to the venue. The programme was originally scheduled to be attended by Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, who was to arrive at Dimapur Airport and join the victory rally. However, he could not attend due to "unavoidable circumstances," according to the NPYC.
Addressing the solidarity session, NPCC working president C Apok Jamir described the occasion as coming at "a very opportune time" amid challenges facing the State and the country. He stressed the responsibility of citizens, particularly young people, in safeguarding democratic and constitutional values. Jamir said citizens of India, the Northeast and Nagaland have a duty to remain vigilant and work towards protecting society from aggression, atrocities and what he described as unconstitutional means being witnessed across the country.
The programme also saw the formal presentation of appointment letters to the elected District Youth Congress presidents in the presence of NPYC leaders and other Congress functionaries.
Designated NPYC vice president Longme Konyak delivered the welcome address-cum-presentation, while designated general secretary Izwagong S Sanding proposed the vote of thanks. The programme also featured a performance by Lucy Anar and concluded with the benediction by designated NPYC advisor Rovi Wazah.
