NSCN (IM) condemns ‘unruly behavior’ of AR

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today condemned what it termed as the “insipid and unruly behavior” of the Assam Rifles (AR) and listed out three such recent incidents.

A press release from the MIP of the NSCN (IM) alleged that the 34 Assam Rifles assaulted one of its cadres, Lieutenant Kennedy Lj near Don Bosco College, Maram in Senapati district of Manipur “without any provocation.”

It claimed that the NSCN (IM) officer “was not in possession of any detrimental documents or materials to warrant such inhuman brutality.” “He was taken to their (AR) battalion headquarters at Maram Bazaar. There he was brutally tortured while being interrogated. He was set free only after the intervention of the civil societies,” it said.

The NSCN (IM) further condemned what it said was the “unwarranted arrest” of Colonel Keewang Deosha by the 19th AR at Jairampur, Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh “without any provocation except for being a member of NSCN.”

It further said that on October 9, the 5 AR raided the residence of Lt Col Among at Signal Angami, Sector A, Dimapur.

“They took pictures of his personal documents including PAN card, Aadhaar card, ATM card and passbook. The same night, another group of the 5 AR raided the NSCN cadres rented house at Signal Angami, Dimapur,” the press release informed.

It stated that these incidents are “a serious matter of indignation for the Naga people as they continue to show total disregard of the agreed ceasefire ground rules (CFGR).”

Condemning such actions, the NSCN (IM) asked the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) to look into the matter with all seriousness “to halt the arrest and raiding spree of the AR.” It asked the CFMG to maintain the “spirit of ceasefire” and act to “save the situation from going bad and secure the unconditional release of Col Keewang Deosha.”
