NSCN-IM justifies ‘Azha’

Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): Reacting to the NSCN-K’s opposition to the “Azha” issued to control “mobs,” the NSCN-IM today issued a statement justifying “use of power” to control mob situations. The NSCN-IM claimed that the “Azha” was only to ‘empower it authority.’

While stating that the “Azha” was never served with the intention to curtail or check “freedom and liberty of the Naga people” under the pretext of law and order, the MIP asserted what it claimed as “empowerment of concerned authority” to check public uprisings. It maintained that “mob uprising” should neither be viewed as a people’s fundamental right nor as being ‘synonymous’ with freedom and liberty.

On “use of power,” the NSCN-IM will certainly justify if it is necessitated towards controlling situation which the “authority” discerns as perilous and destructive to the people and, the NSCN-IM claimed, “government” in particular.  The NSCN-IM has every right to see that peace and harmony prevails in the society and therefore use of appropriate means, be it force “may be imminent,” it asserted.

Describing a mob as an unruly crowd or “unlawful agitated gathering,” the NSCN-IM also maintained it is not synonymous with public gatherings or rallies. Expressing regret that the NSCN-K had interpreted “Naga mob against Naga people as unlawful” the organization is not against public gathering or such. The NSCN-IM will not tolerate instigating ‘Naga against a Naga by the NSCN-K’ as Nagas “always believe truth prevails,” the MIP added.
