DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 13 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (K) today “disowned” the leadership of its President, Khango Konyak. A press release from the MIP of the NSCN/GPRN (K) accused Khango Konyak of “isolating himself (NSCN-Khango) from the Working Committee of the NNPG” after “intentionally appointing a person non-grata, Newell Naga, who was finally expelled by the NSCN (R) for murdering two of his cadres.”
“As such, until he rectifies the blunder, the Working Committee of the NNPG cannot allow him and his group to be a part of the ongoing Indo-Naga political process or consider him as the president,” the press release stated.
It meanwhile claimed that one Khekaho Newell “has been spreading misinformation in the media, creating confusion within the Naga people by bribing aged President, Khango Konyak.” “He has gone to the extent of claiming himself as the new General Secretary of the NSCN (K), which is absolutely ridiculous as our popularly-elected General Secretary, Isak Sumi enjoys the confidence and the support of the entire set-up including most of the regions barring some few expelled workers and a handful of defectors who were ousted/impeached from Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar) by NSCN-K for money and power-mongering,” it said.
“It is also utterly ungrateful on the part of Khango and his expelled henchmen to attempt disowning Col (Retd) Isak Sumi, who, risking all his life, rescued Khango from imminent annihilation in the hands of the Tatmadaw and rival Yung Aung,” the statement added. “Considering his lack of statesmanship quality to lead the Naga struggle despite being a veteran we are again compelled to disown his leadership yet again,” the NSCN/GPRN (K) said.
It meanwhile informed Nagas “not to extend any patronage, physically, materially, financially or politically especially in and around Dimapur and Kohima to the self-styled renegade gang.” The NSCN/GPRN (K) further informed that this clarification is being published “with the consultation and consent of the Working Committee of the NNPG.”
Meanwhile, a separate press note from the MIP informed that “Khango Konyak has violated the anti-defection agreement signed between the seven NNPG’s which has been re-affirmed four times by all the entities.”
The NSCN/GPRN (K) held an emergency meeting on September 13 and condemned the “dictatorial action of Khango Konyak” and appealed for immediate revocation of the decision to appoint Newell Naga and expel Colonel (Retd) Isak Sumi “in order to initiate internal reconciliation as well as to avert mistrust and defiance of NNPG covenant.”
The press release said that this decision was “fully endorsed by a full quorum of the Council of Kilonsers headed by General Secretary, 80% of secretariat staff, CFSB secretary and members and majority of the civil set-up and Naga Army.” It added that the “functional/existing regional authorities” including the Angami, Sangtam, Sumi, Chakasang, UT-1, Lotha, Khiamniungan and Yimchunger regions have also endorsed the decision.
