DNSU organises debate competition on Naga political movement in Dimapur

Calling on all Naga citizens across the globe to honour and preserve Naga Independence day on August 14, Kegwayhun Tep, President, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), also directed its federating units to do the same. He also appealed to all the church bodies to particularly pray for unity and healing of the Nagas.
The NSF President made the announcement while giving a solidarity message during the debate competition organised by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on the topic, “An unhealthy paradigm shift in the History of the Naga Political Movement has emerged in today’s age; it’s diverging the Movement’s true nature,” at Bethesda Hr Sec School, Dimapur on August 12.
He further stated that, “Nagas are not a confused people; we have a distinct and clear history.” However, the underlying problem is that most senior Naga political leaders today have created confusion within the minds of the youngsters. He therefore, called on the younger generation to be united and stand firm for the truth.
Besides these points, Tep spoke on importance of organising such events as it helps the individual to enlighten and understand the Naga political issue. As such, he encouraged the other student bodies to organise similar events in the future so as to educate students and youngsters about the history of the Nagas.
In regard to the debate competition, the panel of judges comprised of Rev Dr Wati Aier, Convenor, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Neingulo Krome, Secretary General, Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights and Achumbemo Kikon, Former President, NSF.
‘Against the motion’ was represented by participants from the Sumi, Ao, Rongmei, Rengma, Lotha and Tangkhul federating units of the union, while ‘for the motion,’ comprised of the units of the Poumai, Angami, Chakhesang, Mao, Zeliang and Pochury students’ unions. The participants were judged based on three rounds of the debate while points were given for their organisation and clarity, use of information and facts and team efforts.
Participants speaking against the motion were adjudged the best team performance. While Lipok Walling from the Ao Students’ Union and Visimetuo Nagi from the Angami Students’ Union were proclaimed as best individual debaters from their respective sides.
At the concluding end, all the three judges also gave their individual remarks and opinions on the overall debate competition.
The event concludes the DNSU’s three-day sports meet-cum-debate competition held between August 10 to 12 at two different educational institutions in Dimapur.
