The Nagaland Strongman & Fitness Association (NSFA) today conducted the 1st Open Power Lifting Competition at Old NST, Kohima.

Altogether, 32 power lifters from different districts of Nagaland including two from Assam joined the meet. For the competition, the power lifters went through three rounds-Squad, Bench Press and Dead Lift.

Talking to media persons, NSFA President, Keduovilie Zumu said that the objective of the meet is to promote fitness and the discipline of power lifting in the state. He maintained that there are many opportunities for power lifters as the discipline of powerlifting has been featured in Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and National Games. There is already sports quota for power lifters in the central services, he said.

Zumu also informed that the Association will go through the records of the winners from this competition and if possible, recommendation will be accorded to them for participation at the higher platforms.

The 1st and 2nd position winners carried Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 in each category.

The 1st edition Open Power Lifting Competition was sponsored by Nagaland Power and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, KG Kenye, Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Nagaland Taekwondo Association President, Pele Khezhie, Agriculture Census officer Diwang Nusory,  Class I contractor & NDPP (CEB) Secretary Neingutuo Rio, Education Connection proprietor Kuolie Puro,  EE PHED (Zunheboto) Ichirangbe Zeliang and Nagaland Development Commissioner, R Ramakrishnan.
