Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): Along with the rest of the country, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) launched the ‘Haq hamara bhi to hai@75’ – a campaign for providing basic legal assistance to persons confined in prisons and child care institutions.
According to a press release from the NSLSA PRA, the campaign is being carried out from October 31 to November 13 across all the Central and District Jails in the state under the guidance and supervision of SLSA, to commemorate India’s 75th year of Independence.
On November 3, the field team of Kiphire DLSA led by Panel Lawyer, Lizila Sangtam along with PLV Tsasela Sangtam visited District Jail Kiphire and interacted with the inmates. At present there are 7 Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) and 2 convicts. With regard to observation home there were no inmates at present, the release stated.
A field team of Tuensang DLSA led by Retainer lawyer Antimangyang Chang visited observation home and District Jail Tuensang and interacted with the inmates on November 2. At present there are 18 UTPs and 6 convicts at District Jail Tuensang and two inmates at Observation Home Tuensang.
On the same day, field team of Dimapur DLSA launched the campaign at District Jail, Dimapur. The Kohima DLSA also held Consultative meeting with the Panel Lawyers and PLVs to carry out the campaign.
In Wokha, the DLSA visited the Observation Home Wokha and District Jail Wokha and rendered legal advice and counselling led by Panel Lawyers Jacob Kikon, Shanchobeni P Lotha and assisted by Para Legal Volunteers Abigail Lotha and Tsanthungo. Presently, there are 22 prisoners in the District Jail with 17 UTPs, 6 Convicts. However there were no children in conflict with law at present.
Similarly, the Phek DLSA was led by Vethothi Vero, Retainer Lawyer, along with Dieze Vadeo and Nuveku Soho, PLVs. The team visited and interacted with the UTPs and convicts at District Jail, Phek where there are 6 UTPs and 7 convicts.
The field team of Longleng DLSA led by Monyie Phom, Panel Lawyer and Manau N PLV visited District Jail, Longleng and interacted with the prisoners on November 1 and 2, the release stated.
