Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) conducted its second graduation ceremony on Monday with principal, St. Joseph College, Jakhama, Rev. Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, as the chief guest of the ceremony.

Dwelling on the national health scenario, the chief guest in his address said that even after 70 years of Independence, the country still does not have an accessible, affordable and sustainable health care system.

Sebastian said though the country has a number of 5-star hospitals in metropolitans, yet they cater to health services of only 10 percent of the creamy layer of the population and affluent patients from outside the country.

He said public private partnership (PPP) hospitals such as CIHSR hold the key to affordable and accessible heath care in the country, which would also cater to the health needs of the underprivileged classes.

Exhorting the new nursing graduates, Sebastian said, “You are specially called and you are specially privileged to serve”. He urged them to transcend their own selves so that they can reach out and help people in distress.

“Be deeply sensitive with the patient population, for to them you are everything. Develop your own protocol in life and be committed to the marginalized sections,” he concluded.

The chief guest along with CIHSR Director, Dr. Sedevi Angami and Nursing Advisor, Principal, College of Nursing, CIHSR, Dr. Christy Simpson, distributed graduate, diploma and merit certificates to the students.

Earlier, CIHSR Director delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Christy Simpson and Deputy Director, CIHSR, Dr. Viu Meru officiated the ‘charge to the graduates' and ‘pledge by the graduates’ respectively.
