Calls for strict enforcement and expansion to other areas
Kohima, May 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) today expressed its strong endorsement of the May 20 letter by the Home Commissioner of Nagaland directing the Director General of Police (DGP) and Commissioner of Nagaland to ensure compliance with the State Government’s orders to enforce the ban on unauthorised collection of money by NGOs, etc.
In a press release, NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi asserted that, as per the letter, the DGP and Commissioner must immediately issue an instruction to the respective district administration and police authorities for strict enforcement of orders to prevent and curb unauthorised collection of money in various forms.
These include taxes, membership fees, donations, charges, levies, tolls, or any other form of collection of money on state highways, national highways, or marketplaces by unions, associations, NGOs, or any other private and community organisations by whatever name, it said.
The organisation further appealed to the State Government to issue a similar order banning the illegal deduction of public funds, especially those meant for development, in the form of commissions or percentages, party funds, etc., which seriously affect the quality of work done by contractors.
Associations, unions, church organisations, clubs, etc, should refrain from fundraising by selling lottery tickets, moudi, packed fruits, cooked meat, buffet tickets, etc., in an expensive manner, it added.
Despite standing orders, the NVCO also expressed surprise at the recent statement issued by the Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU) requesting the State Government to allow the DMC to collect urban utility fees or entry fees from all commercial vehicles entering DMC jurisdiction.
