
10 NWA members to join Indian Sports Contingent
Kohima, September 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) held a Prayer and Blessing Ceremony today for its 10-member team, who will represent India in the 5th World Nomad Games 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The Games, scheduled from September 7 to 15, will feature Belt & Mas Wrestling, among other traditional sports.
According to a press release from NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, the team includes seven wrestlers and three officials. The wrestlers—Venuzo Dawhuo (100 Kg), Huluyi D. Vadeo (90 Kg), Vethozo Lohe (80 Kg), Nlumrai Hebwang (75 Kg), Rokuokehie Khawakhrie (70 Kg), Vizoseno Kiso (60 Kg), and Nosezonu Kuotsu (55 Kg)—will compete under the aegis of the All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF). The officials, Mitwatei Haibwang (Coach), Neivuolie Khatsü (Coach), and Surhoneyi Soho (Referee), will also be part of the contingent.
During the brief ceremony held at the NWA Office on Secretariat Road, NWA President Vivolie Kezo shared words of encouragement with the team, while Pastor Vezokho Vero of Naga Shisha Hoho Prayer Centre, Prüzie, Kohima, led a prayer for the athletes and officials.
The World Nomad Games 2024 is expected to feature over 40 sports disciplines, with around 3,000 athletes from 100 countries. Over 100,000 spectators are anticipated to attend the event.
The NWA team will depart from Dimapur for Delhi on September 6 and will fly to Astana on September 7. They are expected to return to Dimapur on September 16.
