
Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): The court of District and Session Judge, Phek on June 18 convicted Weshe Ritse and sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh.
The judgment was passed by Special Judge Mezivolu T Therieh (NJS). He was charged U/S 20 (b) (ii) (c) of under the NDPS Act. The case dates back to October 28, 2018 when the police personnel of Pfutsero Police Station under the command of SDPO Aotula (IPS) while on motor vehicle Check Post duty at PWD Road junction intercepted a pickup truck loaded with 435 kg of ganja.
The driver was arrested and three accused persons namely, Weshe Ritse, Dilhou Krome and Solomon Ladu were put to trial. However due to insufficient evidence the other two persons were acquitted, according to the court order.
