DIMAPUR, APRIL 29 (MExN): One person was convicted for “penetrative sexual assault” of a 12 year old minor in Dimapur and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with fine of Rs 10,000.
A press release from the Special Public Prosecutor, Dimapur, Imlimongla informed that Special Judge, FTSC, Dimapur, Khrulto Koso passed the judgment against the accused Vinato Chopi on April 29 under the POSCO Act.
The case was successfully investigated by UBSI Tajungsangla of Women’s Cell, Dimapur Police. The prosecution examined 6 witnesses to prove the case.
The judge, while pronouncing the judgment and sentence, stated that the prosecution has successfully proved its case beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt. The Court observed that the accused committed atrocities to an innocent minor girl cruelly and that it is the duty of the court to consider and credit the trauma faced by the victim’s family and that the accused does not deserve any leniency.
The Court further observed that the accused is a prudent man, well acquainted with the pros and cons of his misdeeds and has record of pending cases against him; therefore he is not entitled to get the benevolent provisions of the Probation Offenders Act.
