Organisations condemns threats against DNSU over data collection

Dimapur, September 6 (MExN): The Zeliang Students' Union Dimapur (ZSUD), Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur (TSUD), Chakhro Angami Kuda Students' Union (CAKSU) and Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union have expressed condemnation and concern following recent threats directed at the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU). 

The threats are linked to DNSU’s ongoing data collection of non-locals residing in Dimapur, a move intended to ensure lawful documentation and foster communal harmony.

In a press release, ZSUD described these threats as an attack on the principles of accountability and transparency upheld by DNSU. The union stressed that DNSU's efforts to document non-locals are crucial for maintaining order and supporting the rights of indigenous people. ZSUD called for unity in supporting DNSU’s initiative, emphasizing that such intimidation tactics are unacceptable.

"We stand in solidarity with the DNSU and strongly condemn these cowardly threats," stated Asap Zeliang, President of ZSUD, and Sithu Nrak, General Secretary. They urged the authorities to investigate the threats thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur (TSUD) also issued a strong condemnation of recent threats and acts of intimidation directed at the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU). 

In its statement, TSUD affirmed its support for DNSU’s initiative and stressed the importance of addressing the situation to ensure the ILP functions as intended without hindering progress. The TSUD emphasized its commitment to legal action against any illegal actions or threats, underscoring the collective Naga cause.

"The Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur stands firmly behind the DNSU and supports its efforts to protect our cultural heritage," said Sotilo Seb, President of TSUD. "We urge all Nagas and concerned citizens to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and remain united in our pursuit of justice and fairness."

The TSUD reiterated its dedication to advocating for the rights and well-being of the Naga community and vowed to continue its efforts to achieve justice for all.

The Chakhro Angami Kuda Students' Union (CAKSU), in a press release, echoed the Dimapur Naga Students' Union's (DNSU) call for effective enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.

CAKSU strongly condemned recent intimidation and threats faced by DNSU in their data collection efforts related to ILP. The union voiced its full support for DNSU, emphasizing the importance of ILP for the protection of Naga rights and identity.

"The work being done by DNSU benefits all Nagas, and any attempt to undermine this effort will not be tolerated," said Alenuo Delie, President of CAKSU. "We stand united in our fight for our rights and cultural preservation."

CAKSU also called on all citizens to support the implementation of ILP and to work together to overcome any attempts to derail this crucial initiative. "This is a collective issue that demands our collective effort," the statement read.

The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent interference and threats faced by the Dimapur Naga Student Union (DNSU) in their crucial initiative to collect data on non-Naga residents in Dimapur. This data collection is an essential part of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) process.

The DRSU has voiced unwavering support for DNSU’s lawful efforts, emphasizing the importance of these activities in ensuring the proper implementation of ILP regulations. The ILP system aims to regulate the influx of non-Naga residents into Dimapur, safeguarding the interests and cultural integrity of the Naga people.

Recognizing the significance of data collection in maintaining transparency and accountability, the DRSU criticized the obstruction of DNSU’s efforts as a threat to community safety and security. They denounced these acts of intimidation as contrary to democratic principles and the spirit of constructive dialogue.

The DRSU called on all citizens to respect the rights of student organizations and support their work without interference. They emphasized the importance of operating within legal bounds and fostering mutual respect to achieve collective goals in upholding regional regulations.

The DRSU reiterated its solidarity with DNSU and demanded an immediate end to all obstructive actions and threats. They urged authorities to ensure a safe environment for DNSU’s data collection activities and warned that any further obstruction would be met with collective action from the Naga community.
