DCPU and Child Helpline observes child rights week
CHÜMOUKEDIMA, NOVEMBER 22 (MExN): Along with the rest of the nation, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Child Helpline observed child rights week from November 14-21, with an aim to create awareness on child rights and constitution of block/ward and village Level child protection committee with the local bodies of the village, block and ward in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.
A press release received from Childline Dimapur informed that child rights week campaign commenced with celebration of Children’s Day with the children of Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur where in the team conducted various activities with the children and also shared about the day’s significance.
The DCPU and Child Helpline unit in collaboration with the Assisi Centre of Integrated Development organised awareness program on child rights with the office bearers and members of All Nagaland Domestic Workers Union, Child Rights Movement, SHGs and community leaders.
Guest speaker for the programme Tajungsangla, Officer In-Charge, Women Police Station, in her speech highlighted about the cases mostly received by the women police. She also mentioned that many children are becoming the victim of cyber crime and therefore parents should be very vigilant and educate their child about the dangers of internet.
Meanwhile the team also took up various sessions on Child Helpline 1098, child rights services of DCPU.
One day sensitization and awareness program on child rights and constitution of Village Child Protection Committee (VLCPC) was conducted with the various local bodies and representative from the different schools of Niuland District.
Avika Zhimomi, District Child Protection Officer, Dimapur deliberated on the roles and responsibilities of village/ward/block level child protection committee. He stated that the VLCPC will play a vital role in sensitising the public on various child related issues and to create a child friendly and safe community.
He also urged the village leaders to extend their support towards the team in safeguarding the well-being of our children and protecting them from all forms of violences and exploitation. Alomi Sumi Project Coordinator Child Helpline shared about child rights and services of Child Helpline 1098. Moajungla, Legal cum Probation Officer, DCPU also spoke on POCSO Act.
The DCPU and Child Helpline unit concluded child rights week on November 21 by holding a consultative meeting with the village local bodies, Asha workers, Angwadi and representative from different school of Seithekema ‘B’ Basa and Singrijan village on constitution of village child protection committee.
DCPU PO (NIC) Esther Sumi, briefed about the roles and responsibilities of VLCPC. Further the village community was also apprised about the services of Child Helpline and DCPU.
