Patkai Christian College celebrated its 50th foundation day on August 28.
Chümoukidema, August 28 (MExN): Patkai Christian College marked its 50th Foundation Day with a grand celebration at Bundrock Auditorium on August 28. The event drew a large gathering of faculty, students, alumni, and distinguished guests.
Dr Thepfuvilie Pierü, Principal of Patkai Christian College, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, including founder and principal emeritus Rev Dr Tuisem A Shishak, former principal Rev. Judson, and Hoto Yeptho, Member of the Board of Trustees, who served as the day's speaker.
A traditional gifting ceremony was held during the event, where the college presented a rooster and a packet of salt to the donor villages, Chümoukedima and Seithekema, in recognition of their contribution of the land on which the college stands. This gesture reflects the Angami tribe's customary law.
In his address, Yeptho spoke on the significance of the Jubilee, stating, "Today the vision is coming true." He traced the origins of the word "Jubilee" to Biblical references, emphasizing its importance. He recounted the humble beginnings of Patkai Christian College in 1974 under the leadership of Dr. Tuisem A. Shishak and his wife, Margaret Shishak, who started the institution with just 20 students and a few teachers in thatched houses. "But today it has become a city. It has become autonomous, almost a university. One of the best colleges in the North-East. Thousands of graduates, postgraduates, and doctorates have been produced. Hundreds of missionaries, officers, and professionals, and thousands of responsible citizens have been produced. Praise to our God," he remarked.
Yeptho also underscored the spiritual essence of Jubilee, describing it as "freedom from the bondage of sin," a time for repentance, confession, and forgiveness.
The event concluded with a benediction by Rev. Dr Tuisem A Shishak, who founded the college.
Earlier in the program, Rev Dr Vichükho Ngukha, Chaplain of PCC, led the opening prayer, and senior faculty member Angel Sonari chaired the proceedings. The day also featured a special musical performance by students of Margaret Shishak's School of Music.
