A 10-day special awareness campaign under the SANKALP Hub for Women, Mission Shakti, organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Zunheboto, commenced with an awareness programme on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) at the Zunheboto Town Sumi Baptist Church on September 4.

The event began with an awareness session led by Nurse Tsuvili Sema, Senior Nurse Staff at the District Hospital, Zunheboto. In her address, she emphasized the importance of medical investigations and regular checkups during pregnancy.

"Early and regular screening for HIV, Hepatitis, blood group, and other conditions is vital for both mother" she stated. She further added that HIV-positive mothers can prevent transmission to their babies through proper medication and timely treatment.

Nurse Sema highlighted issues such as low hemoglobin levels, high blood pressure, and the importance of receiving vaccines like TT during pregnancy. She also spoke about conditions such as molar pregnancy, describing it as a rare complication that requires prompt medical attention.

She stressed that pregnant women should undergo at least three to four medical checkups during their term, stay well-hydrated, and follow doctors’ advice diligently. She also underlined the importance of breastfeeding for newborns.

Speaking on nutrition, she recommended the consumption of fruits like pomegranate and papaya, as well as aloe vera for their health benefits during pregnancy. However, she advised avoiding cow meat and soups. In cases of urinary tract infections (UTIs), she recommended avoiding eggs and chicken meat.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by R. Intinukshi, District Programme Officer (DPO), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Social Welfare Department, Zunheboto.
The session was chaired by Kiyepu N. Yeptho, Gender Specialist, DHEW Mission Shakti. 

He also announced an upcoming exposure trip scheduled for September 12 to ICIT Lap, Ungma village under Mokokchung District. The trip is intended for girl students from a science stream background who are studying and also who have completed their studies and are currently residing in Zunheboto. The intake capacity is limited to 40 participants.
