DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): Against the backdrop of the statement issued by the Union Home Minister, Shushil Kumar Shinde that the Indian Constitution provided no “interim government”, the NSCN (IM) has in a press note issued by the MIP stated that the statement of Indian Home Minister, which was carried in many local and Indian National papers on 12th September 2012 “has come as a major surprise”. “We cannot perceive how this term has emerged and on what basis and reason he has uttered this idea to the media”, stated the NSCN (IM).
According to the MIP, the Home Minister may have the right to give that statement; however, “it was not politically expedient for him to have said that when both the parties are seriously working out ways and means to come closer and the Naga peoples are anxiously expecting a negotiated political settlement acceptable to both”. “Therefore, the nature in which he has given his statement has hurt the sentiments of the Nagas”, the NSCN (IM) stated.
The NSCN (IM) pointed out that the Home Minister should also understand that the second clause of the Ceasefire agreement between the NSCN and GoI is “without pre-condition”. The two other clause states that the political dialogue will be at the highest level and outside India in a third country. “His statement seems to exhibit the fact that there has been no proper consultations and co-ordination amongst the leaders in the GoI”.
The NSCN (IM) has stated that it “consider this development as very unfortunate and premature when the political dialogue between the NSCN and the Government of India as two entities is said to have reached a crucial stage”. The press note from the NSCN (IM) expressed hope that the GoI will not backtrack on its commitment that it will seek solution “outside the box” and by walking the “extra mile”.
