District water testing laboratories established across State

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 25 (MExN): The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Nagaland has advised the public to get their water sources tested in their district water testing laboratories or the State Laboratory in Dimapur.

A press release from Er N Thsathirichem Sangtam, Chief Engineer, Sanitation and WSSO, PHED informed that district water testing laboratories have been established in all the districts of Nagaland, which along with the State Laboratory in Dimapur, can carry out physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of water sources.

The department encouraged people to get their water sources tested in these laboratories for a nominal fee. “It is very important to know the water quality status because periodic testing and water quality monitoring will definitely maintain reliable and safe water sources and eliminate the potential health risks related to water contamination,” the PHED press release said.

It informed that water quality largely determines the ‘goodness and fitness’ of water for intended purpose, especially for drinking purpose. “When water is tested it offers the knowledge required to address the problem that is currently involved with water quality,” the department stated. It meanwhile added that testing water sources will ensure that water quality is protected from every potential cause of contamination.
