In order to propagate environment conservation and its campaign for a plastic free Kohima, the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) today presented tree saplings instead of mementos to the guests with the message "Plant for Life."
ASU hoped that this would encourage people to cut less and plant more.

This initiative was undertaken in collaboration with Kohima Municipal Council and the forest department, Kohima division.

As part of its campaign for a plastic free Kohima, ASU called upon everyone to discourage the use of plastic throughout the ongoing tournament of 20th NSF Martyr's Memorial Trophy 2019, which kicked start today at Kohima Local Ground.

In his speech, ASU president Vizokho Zashümo made a sincere appeal to one and all to make a conscious effort towards sanitation and cleanliness.

“Our city needs smart people as much as the smart city,” he said.

To discourage the use of plastic, ASU have also installed water dispensers in many locations at the Kohima Local Ground. It asked everyone to make use of it and ensure to dispose the waste appropriately.

“As responsible citizens and the hope of tomorrow, the students community needs to take the lead in protecting the environment and care for Mother Earth,” Zashümo said. To encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives, at the event today, the ASU served refreshment on banana leaves and bamboo tubes.
