
Kohima, March 18 (MExN): The Master Trainers and Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainers of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) in association with Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority organized orientation training for Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) and Panel Lawyers of Zunheboto district on March 16.
The training commenced with opening remark by Atoka Achumi, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Zunheboto and also the Secretary of Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority.
Ice breaking session was conducted by Tongpang Jamir, Master Trainer of NSLSA. The participants of the training were divided into teams “which effectively set the tone among the participants to proceed to the next session,” stated a press release from NSLSA.
Atoka Achumi discoursed on the topic Do’s and Don’ts as Para Legal Volunteers, serving within the domain of Legal Services activities. Later, he also highlighted the challenges and problems faced by PLVs and Legal Services institutions.
The practical session included exercise on drafting of petitions, complaints, and FIR by Para Legal Volunteers, which was administered by Joshua Sheqi, Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainer (NSLSA).
Training on role play by Para Legal Volunteers dealing with crime against women and children and their protection was presented by Neinguvotuo Krose. Later, Joshua Sheqi illustrated on the background and facts of motor vehicle accidents and claims cases and equipped the Para Legal Volunteers and Panel Lawyers with the roles and duties of a PLV in such cases. Tongpang Jamir explained the consumer redressal techniques and forum using methods such as flip charts and handouts.
In the afternoon session, Para Legal Volunteers were trained by Neinguvotuo Krose on dealing with human trafficking cases and various legal provisions in curbing the human trafficking business. Krose also presented the ways and means of identifying various welfare schemes and helping the entitled individuals to avail the benefits.
Exercise on Maintenance of Records, PLV register, filling of Success Stories was carried out under the mentorship of Tongpang Jamir. He also mentioned the various prisoners’ rights and Legal Services programs implemented in the State under the supervision of NSLSA.
The programme, attended by 43 people comprising Public Prosecutor, Assistant Public Prosecutor, officials of Police Department, Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers, ended with a group discussion on various issues relating to Legal Services institution, role play by Legal Services Authorities on ensuring proper implementation of welfare schemes, NALSA schemes, training modules for PLVs and Panel Lawyers, the release said.
It was also informed that orientation training of this kind will be held throughout the State, administered by Master Trainers and Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainers of NSLSA accompanied by NSLSA Nodal Officers in the coming days.
