PNSK conference held in Longwa village

Mon, January 14 (MExN): The second day of the second Shepupa Phomching Nyupuh Shekho Khong (PNSK) conference at Longwa village in Mon district was held on January 12 with NPF Working President and Advisor (Political) to the Nagaland Chief Minister, Apong Pongener as chief guest. He was accompanied by the Chairman, NHHDC, Bano Sanchu, President NPF Farmers’ Wing and other functionaries of the NPF Central.  

Apong Pongener congratulated the organizers and members of the PNSK for the active role played by the women organization for uplift of Phomching area and its people in all fields. He praised Longwa village in general and Maoba Konyak in particular for their contribution towards woodcrafts and other handicrafts which are spreading worldwide, informed a press release from TL Merry, Press Secretary, NPF Central. While citing a personal encounter during one of his visits to the US where he found a huge collection of such crafts in one American’s home, Pongener encouraged the gathering to take interest in such profession.  

The chief guest also inaugurated the sales-cum-exhibition stalls displaying a wide range of handicrafts, cane works, and ornamental items made of wood, brass, silver etc.  

While appreciating the Konyak people’s fight against opium abuse in every form, Pongener warned that ill effects of addiction are not only the damage afflicted on the individual addict, but a great loss to the society.  

On the political front, Apong commented, “We are hopeful for outcome of an acceptable solution of the Indo-Naga political issue at the earliest; however, in the event election is to be held prior to any outcome, NPF will return with a thumbing majority.”  

Briefly greeting the delegates, Chairperson, NHHDC announced that a training centre for weavers which would facilitate imparting training to weavers by expert designers will be allotted and established in Phomching area for the benefit of the public.  

Pointing out the popularity of yam among the Konyak tribe, Lanukaba, President, NPF Farmers’ Wing encouraged the delegates to choose the right variety of yam suitable for the respective areas for best harvest. He also advised to preserve the yam leaves into ‘anishi’ with the help of a machine, which he assured to help them avail of and also to provide training for the same.  

The day long activities comprised of meetings, essay competition, cultural and folk song-competition-cum-presentation by women of the PNSK village units. In the evening, a ‘Talent Show’ was organized by Lemnon Phamsa and group.
