DIMAPUR: Police are on high alert in view of the uncontrolled behavior of joggers on the fly over bridge particularly during the early morning hours after 1 am.

Police officials talking to The Morung Express said that they had arrested a number of unruly boys and girls, surprisingly most of them below the age of 20.

The police said that some of them were also caught red-handed while indulging in ‘immoral’ activities. SP Dimapur had earlier aired a request to the joggers to refrain from creating unwanted situations while ‘jogging’. He had also requested parents in general to check the movements of their children especially during the wee hours of the night.

Police mobile squads are patrolling round the clock especially during the night to check the unabated trend of jogging at midnight.

Of late, it has been noticed that young boys and girls wander through the streets of Dimapur during early hours of the morning and without any intention to exercise. Many of these youngsters can be seen passing by the over bridge located near the Railway Station, Dimapur as early as 1 am in the morning. A girl studying in High School was interviewed by The Morung Express. “I fix my alarm for two in the morning, get up and go for jogging and then return home to sleep again before I wake up for school.” However, some ‘genuine’ joggers have also been seen exercising in the mornings, dressed in athletic gear. Some have also been observed practicing stunts on BMX bicycles and skateboards. What can also be noted is the fact that public infrastructural facility for recreational purposes is highly amiss in Dimapur and other places of the region as well. Some are of the opinion that if one can play games in streets as followed in many cities, why children in Dimapur cannot do so. However several people whom The Morung Express spoke to pointed out that the youths had no excuse to venture out at such odd hours which only added to the suspicion that they were upto ‘something’ which was unacceptable as a matter of ethics and decency.
