A suo-moto case has been filed in the Dimapur Suburban Police Station in connection with the alleged abuse and death of a three-year old boy in Dimapur on October 5.

The boy was reportedly brought to a private hospital in Dimapur with major head injuries on September 30 by his family members. According to sources, the family members’ account of the boy’s injuries was varied— some said the boy fell from his bicycle while some said he fell from the stairs.

On further examination and an MRI test, it was found that the boy required immediate brain surgery following which he was admitted in the ICU. However, the boy succumbed to his injuries on October 5.

Confirming the filing of the case on Wednesday, the Dimapur Police PRO told The Morung Express that further details of the case could not be revealed as the matter is sub judice and provision of the law that prohibits disclosure of information that could lead to identification of the victim.

However, the PRO revealed that the suo-moto case was filed under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012.

The Director of Childline Dimapur also took cognisance of the matter, however, declined to comment as investigations are still on.
