PTBA, PTMA hold seminar on women’s safety in Pfutsero
Pfutsero, June 27 (MExN): The Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) through its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), in collaboration with the Pfutsero Town Mothers’ Association (PTMA), organised a seminar on “Together for Women’s Safety and Dignity” at Pioneer Complex, CBCC.
Phek Superintendent of Police Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra (IPS) and Advocate Sekhotso Rokha, Retainer Lawyer of the Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA), addressed the gathering as resource persons.
Speaking on “Women’s Safety, Cyber Awareness and the Role of Society in Creating Safe Spaces,” Dr Batra highlighted the growing threat of cyber crimes in Nagaland and cautioned the public against clicking unknown links, sharing OTPs, personal information and photographs online.
She explained various forms of cyber crimes including cyber stalking, image morphing, deepfakes, fake dating websites, social media trolling, doxxing and online fraud, along with available legal provisions and punishments for such offences.
Dr Batra urged greater coordination among police, churches, NGOs, educational institutions and civil society, and called upon all stakeholders to work towards making Phek District a women crime-free district.
Advocate Rokha, speaking on “Women’s Legal Rights, Workplace Dignity and the Role of Internal Complaints Committee,” explained legal protections available to women under laws relating to domestic violence, sexual harassment, equal remuneration, maternity benefits, dowry prohibition and property rights.
He noted that many domestic violence cases are linked to alcohol abuse and warned that perpetrators are often known persons within families. He also urged parents, churches and community leaders not to permit child marriages, stressing that marriage of girls below 18 years is illegal and invites legal consequences.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, allowing participants to engage directly with the resource persons.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, PTBA ICC Chairperson Vitale-u Leah Curhah said the committee was constituted on April 1, 2025, with the aim of promoting a safe, respectful and dignified workplace.
PTMA President Yiekope-u Kenye, in her greetings, stressed that protecting women is a shared responsibility of families and society. The programme was chaired by Kivi Venuh Sakhrie, Finance Secretary, PTBA. The vote of thanks was delivered by PTBA President Vekusu Chuzho.
