DIMAPUR, NOV 3 (MExN): Welcoming the move of SP Dimapur Bidhu Shekhar towards taking the initiative to check the “unruly behaviour of some of the joggers,” Parliamentary Secretary Hewoto Awomi lamented that under the pretext of jogging, exercising and morning walks, a number of indecent and immoral activities take place, thereby tarnishing the image of Dimapur. After yesterday’s arrests of young boys and girls, the Parliamentary Secretary has requested parents to monitor the movements of their children, especially during midnight hours.
“The lack of basic decency on the part of our citizens would totally negate the outlook and the hospitable nature for which the Naga people are renowned world over,” he said. Awomi further urged upon the health conscious to maintain and follow the right timing for jogging and exercising and advocated for exposure of the “trouble makers” so as to serve an example to check the unabated trend.
Echoing this sentiment, Y Vikheho Awomi, the Chairperson of the Dimapur Municipal Council said, “It is my earnest request to the people to appreciate and cooperate with the keepers of the law so as to facilitate a secure atmosphere in Dimapur.” Both Awomis have lauded the SP and his team of officers for patrolling round the clock to contain such unwanted activities in and around the town.
NSF lauds Dimapur police
The Naga Students Federation (NSF) also expressed its appreciation to the Superintendent of Police Dimapur and his colleagues for initiating ‘tremendous measures’ in erasing ‘immoral and unwanted’ activities taking place amongst the teenagers and youths in Dimapur. Through a statement received here, the NSF further requested the authority to continue the good service. The NSF also warned students of dire consequences if found loitering around at odd hours or indulging in immoral and unwanted activities.
While acknowledging the police, the federation has appealed all the sections of the people to extend support and cooperation to the police. It especially urged institutional authorities and parents to guide and keep strict vigilance of their children.
The Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) while lauding the effort of the SP also expressed their serious concern on the indecent activities in the streets during the wee hours. The DNSN in a press communiqué by Obed Yimchunger, President DNSU applauded the police for striving hard to check on the unabated trend of jogging at night and appealed to all parents to keep a guard on their children.
Asserting such activities as serious the DNSU warned the hostels wardens and the students to be more responsible.
