A pay & use toilet with provision for differently abled people, constructed under Swacch Bharat Mission was inaugurated here this morning by Central Public Health Engineering & Environmental Organization (CPHEEO) deputy advisor Rohit Kakkar.
Located at Officers’ Hill, between Indoor TT Stadium and Red Cross building, this public toilet is the first of kind in Nagaland where provision is set for the differently abled people.
Kakkar was appreciative of the coming up of such beautiful structure and called for proper maintenance of the provided facility.
He was optimistic that this facility will also go a long way in meeting the goal of Swacch Bharat Mission in the country.
This pay & use toilet is billed as “One step towards cleanliness.”
The Officers’ Hill (Thegabakha) Colony Council (OHCC), Kohima keeping in mind the need for public toilet resolved in its executive meeting to construct a public toilet within the colony jurisdiction. In time of fund constraint, Swacch Bharat Mission came as a blessing for the project, said OHCC general secretary Ruokuolhouvo Miachieo.
Other factors in making this project possible included, land donated by T. Khel, Kohima village, joint effort by the government agency and the community, especially the urban development department, Kohima Municipal Council, Public Health Engineering Department and the Sanitation Committee of the Officers Hill Colony Council where each one played their respective role.
The project was completed at the total cost of Rs. 4,17,000. (Rs. 1,40,000 and Rs, 2, 77,000 funded by the government and the community respectively).
The Colony Council will collect a nominal fee for the use of the facility for maintenance of this toilet.
No fee will be charged for the differently abled people on wheel chair. They can avail the facility free of cost.
Earlier, the function was chaired by Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) administrator Kovi Meyase.
