
Kohima, June 9 (DIPR): A daylong District & Block Level Resource Groups review meeting on SSA activities in the district and block levels was held today at the DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and chairman of District Mission Authority, Kohima, Sachopra Vero.
In his keynote address, DEO and district coordinator for DMA (SSA), Kohima, V Meyase, gave a background briefing on the functioning of SSA since its inception. He said that the district has seen a lot of infrastructural developments ever since the inception of SSA but stated that civil works are not the only ones to be taken into account. He said that more importance should be given to imparting quality education in the schools and that it is an area which needs active review. He also said that there should be proper supervision and monitoring and a lot of awareness is still necessary with regard to SSA and communitisation.
A detailed presentation was given by DMA Kohima dwelling on access facility and coverage of Schools, EBRC-wise during the year 2009-10, teachers training, various activities under SSA and other innovative schemes, Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS), Capacity Building and training for VEC/WEC/SMB members during the last five years, and work education and civil works undertaken from 2002-09.
Based on the broad aims and objectives of SSA, the DMA Kohima has drawn up specific aims and objectives to achieve Universal Quality Elementary Education (UQEE) by strengthening elementary education; providing useful and relevant elementary education for all schoolchildren in the age group of 6 to 14 years of age by 2012; participation of community and all related departments so as to achieve UQEE within the time frame; providing access, enrolment and retention of students, quality aspects, better infrastructure and effective community trainings, etc.
EBRCs of L. Khel Kohima, Viswema, Chiephobozou and Tseminyu presented their activities reports. Discussions and deliberations were also held while reviewing the EBRC activities and other related matters.
