Rail project awaits final clearance

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 23 (MExN): The Affected Land Owners Committee, NFR, has decided to pressurize Nagaland government and state chief secretary to issue necessary official clearance to the Railway Board (NFR Malegaon), for early payment of compensation.
The committee and all affected landowners in an emergency meeting held Wednesday at Thahekhu Village Council hall, resolved that payment should be made within the current financial year.
The meeting also resolved that in case payment of compensation could not be paid within March 2011, the affected landowners would seek legal course of action for incurring heavy losses due to non-utilization of the land, as per directive of NFR, for the past many years.
After the meeting, a committee member said that, “as per our findings, the railway authority in Malegaon have informed us to pressure the Government of Nagaland to give clearance of the review rate of all the land for payment of compensation.”
He also informed that the Railway authority have asked us “to give pressure for issuing clearance certificate for the Zoological Park, which is in the final process.”
The committee members informed that based on the slogan of “Naga people need development due to lack of our own resources,” the landowners have with much hesitation, given their land for railway construction. However, due to the negligence of the state government, the landowners could not be given land compensation in time, he added.
Meanwhile, the meeting also elected adhoc convenor of the committee, T Shuya, as chairman of the NFR Landowners’ Committee, Nagaland.
