‘Real education today is to master the art’

SASU 71st general conference calls to reinstate work culture

“Individualism is setting in our society,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima Kevithuto Sophie, IPS today emphasized while adding “we need to work towards leading to a progressive society.” 

The SP was addressing the 71st general conference of the Southern Angami Students' Union (SASU) at Panchayat Hall, Kezoma village on February 13.

Sharing concerns over acute unemployment in the state, he said that in the present scenario, not everybody can expect a government job or white collar job expounding that 'real education today is to master the art' rather than to take pride of a degree pointing over our attitude of dependency and complacency on government jobs. He stressed on the need to revive our age old diminishing culture. “Culture is not about traditional songs and dances not we need to distinguish between religion and culture,” he noted adding that “work culture needs to be reinstated” to our present lifestyle. 

“Simple etiquettes of addressing our parents, elders are worth re-cultivating,” the speaker said while pointing that unlike other western societies, “we have a rich culture and heritage.” 

With the exposure of media and technology and good quality and accessible education in our disposal, he urged to take advantage of the amenities.

“We need to ponder on you and me or as an individual person on how we can contribute to the society,” he further added.

SASU, President, Virato Naleo delivered the presidential address. Dr Kekhrieseno Christina, Assistant Professor, HoD, Sociology Department, Kohima College was the academic speaker in the 2nd session. SASU, Education and statistical Secretary, Kevimechie Tsukru while delivering the report also announced meritorious awards to 19 candidates from the region. 

ASU, President Vizokho Zashümo, in his short speech called students to speak the Tenyidie language more often and practice age old moral and social ethics as a habit. He also informed that the Angami Students' Union (ASU) conference will be held in the month of April.
