DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): On the occasion of the ‘57th Nagaland Republic Day’, the Federal Government of Nagaland (NNC-Adino group) has taken a dig at the ongoing reconciliation process to unite various warring Naga political groups.
“In the recent scenario, some people posing as rationalists, speaking lofty in the name of reconciliation is causing confusion in the minds of common people but on careful scrutiny, they are meddling with the same group of pseudo nationalist breaking into numerous factions and each day hurling uncivilized words on one another by defecting from one faction to the other, thus comrades of yesterday become stern enemies today,” said ‘Kedaghe’ (President), ‘Gen (retd)’ Viyalie Metha in his Republic Day message.
Stating that this was “sheer madness”, Metha said that it was also madness on the part of those people who give “readymade recognition and logistic encouragement” to all splinter groups fighting and killing each other.
The message of the FGN president was read out by FGN kilo kilonser, Shevohu Keyho, who was the chief guest at the R-Day celebration of the FGN (Angami Region) held at Chumukedima village on Thursday. “My advice to all is: your self acclaimed innocent action today should not be proved as an act of willful and deliberate against national interest in future,” the message said.
The kilo kilonser also said everyone should respect the landowners of the respective region as contained in the ‘Yezhabo’. Keyho further said that unlike previous years, FGN is celebrating the Naga R-Day in respective region.
FGN Tatar Hoho Speaker, Lhouvitsu, asserted Nagas are a sovereign people and that from time immemorial Nagas were never under the rule of the British, India nor subject to Assam authority. He also said the FGN hopes that Nagas too will be men among men and a nation among nations and that FGN would continue do what is necessary in achieving the objective.
Medical kilonser of the FGN, I. Toshi, said there is only one NNC/FGN and that the birth of A.Z. Phizo was a blessing to the Nagas.
Noted Naga writer, Kaka D. Iralu, said that ‘Republic’ means a nation that is not under the rule of any other nation. Recalling the sacrifices of the Naga forefathers, Iralu said that had the pioneers been selfish, then today Naga history would have been different. “They (forefathers) shed their tears and blood to give us a Republic”, he said.
Stating that in the Angami folklore, selling of ancestral land was a taboo, Iralu said it would be worst if any Naga attempts to sell or barter the Naga nation’s land which is a gift from the Almighty.
Former Principal of Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Kolezo Chase, said fratricidal killing is more “shameful than sad.” Stating that enough has been said about the “unique history”, he said the word “unique” is not important but the “story of uniqueness is more important” and that the truth will live on forever.
Others NNC and public leaders including Neingusie and Thepfukedo also spoke on the occasion.
