DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Dimapur with rest of the country observed the International Youth Day on August 12 by organising a Youth Fest Marathon race under the tagline “Red Run” for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts from Patkai Bridge Junction covering a distance of 5 km towards Seithekema. The marathon race was flagged off by Tepulezonu Tetso, District Sports Officer, Dimapur for all the three districts.
Orenthung Ngullie, DIS, highlighted about the event and the importance of creating awareness on HIV and AIDS in colleges. He informed that the marathon race is an initiative to engage young boys and girls about healthy life style and also physical activities and maintained well being and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases and HIV & AIDS.
EAC Seithekema, Kevethito Rose, acknowledged the NSACS for organising the event and also engaging young boys and girls through such kind of activities and creating awareness on HIV& AIDS. He also congratulated all the participating colleges and winners of the marathon race and encouraged the students to be the ambassador of HIV& AIDS in colleges.
As part of pre- Independence Day and under the initiative of ‘Har Gar Tirang’ campaign, the administration distributed Indian flags and urged the students to place the flag in whichever place deemed fit. Altogether 160 students from RRC college of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland district took part in the marathon.
The winners of all 3 districts were presented with a certificate and cash prize of Rs 5000 (1st), Rs 3000 (2nd) and Rs 2000 (3rd) for both the male and female categories.
In Mokokchung, the District AIDS prevention & control unit (DAPCU/DISHA) under NSACS organized the second edition of marathon race “RED RUN” in Mokokchung.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kibangkumba who flagged off the race from Imlong Place, stressed on the importance of collective action to prevent HIV &AIDS epidemic. The marathon aimed to engage young people in healthy life style, promote safe sexual behavior and increase awareness about HIV&AIDS service.
The event saw 52 students from four colleges participate at the race.ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe handed over the awards to the female winner and CMO Dr Kibangkumba handed the awards to male winners. The winners were presented with certificate and cash prizes.
