Pughoboto, June 8 (MExN): Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB), Pughoboto meeting was at New Administrative Complex on June 6. The session was chaired by Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, MLA and Chairman of SDPDB Pughoboto, with Tiameren Chang, ADC and Vice Chairman, co-chairing the proceedings, stated a DIPR report.
A highlight of the meeting was a presentation on the Carbon Credit Program (CCP) by Anito Swu, Administrator of New Foundation School and Founder of the “Go Green Club.” Swu introduced the Carbon Credit Program (CCP) under REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) initiative - a 50-year vision under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), implemented by Mirin Climate Centre (MCC) in partnership with Infinite Solution and local collaborators.
Swu emphasised that REDD+ Project offers indigenous tribal communities in Northeast India, particularly in Nagaland, a transformative opportunity to conserve forests while earning carbon credits. The initiative’s core goals include reducing deforestation, promoting sustainable forestry practices, and enabling communities to actively trade carbon credits, thus creating a sustainable economic model that also protects the environment. The Board lauded the initiative, noting it as a model for eco-conscious development in the region.
The SDPDB took up several key development agendas and recommended the same including the Proposal for establishing of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Pughoboto, Construction of village internal cemented roads at Mishilimi village and Restoration of the Mukalimi - Chishilimi Road, damaged by a landslide near Tsuyi River. LADP Iconic Projects, including a drainage wall, approach roads, and agriculture-based initiatives for both individuals and the community were welcomed by the Board and duly recommended. Construction of New EAC Office and residential quarters at Ghathashi, construction of SDPO Office and quarters along with construction of a Sub-Divisional Customary Court at the New Administrative Complex were also discussed and recommended by the Board.
The proposal for recognition of Kuhozuqa village has been put on hold, in compliance with a standing state government directive to freeze recognition of new villages and subdivision upgrades.
Concluding the session, Dr. Sukhato A. Sema reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustainable development, infrastructure, and social progress, urging members and the community.
