Tuensang, September 8 (MExN): Residents of Huker and Chessore have called on the government to immediately repair the Huker-Chessore road, describing it as a “vital lifeline” that has fallen into severe disrepair.
The road serves as a critical link between Chessore and key towns, including Shamator, Noklak, Kohima, Dimapur, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, and Wokha. Locals report that its deteriorating condition has left commuters struggling with potholes, uneven surfaces, and erosion due to the absence of proper soling.
“Our road has been in a state of neglect for far too long, and travel has become hazardous,” said Samuel Avito, a community representative. “This road is not just about transport — it connects people to markets, healthcare, education, and other essential services.”
Residents said repeated appeals to authorities have gone unanswered, worsening hardships for the thousands who rely on the route daily. They urged the state government and concerned departments to allocate resources for immediate repair and long-term maintenance.
Community members stressed that restoring the road is crucial for the economic and social well-being of the region.
