Response to ‘What progress are we talking about Mr..Rio?’

In response to the news items published in The Morung Express dated 25/06/09 under the heading ‘What progress are we talking about, Mr Rio?’ I am induced to issue this article to make it clear the misapprehension of the reporters and the general public particularly the denizens of Mokokchung district for questioning the credibility of the developmental works carried under the leadership of present Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

In fact, the progress made in a short span of time by Rio is incomparable with the other Chief Ministers that have ruled the state for more than four decades. For instance, the Congress government under the then Chief Minister S.C. Jamir who have enjoyed the maximum supremacy in the government for nearly about 2 decade. What have done” Perhaps, Jamir’s might had been maintaining a limitation in the field of development for inadequacy of fund or for various unknown reason best known to him. However, the question of insufficiency of funds still exists with the present state government and will continue to exist unless the Naga Political issue is settled amicably. It may further state that, it was during Jamir’s regime, almost all the agri-link road under Mokokchung district and road leading to every villages in the said districts are soldered with black-top. He even played his entire card to shift the present state capital from Kohima to some other pasts of the state under the pretext of being a landslide zone, thereby delaying and diverting all developmental works meant for the state capital. I would also like to inform the general public that, the Angamis have generously donated its land to set up the state capital for the entire Nagas to live and share together, consequently it is the duty of every denizens of the state to maintain and preserve the gifted land for the common cause unlike the past decades.

Hence, there is no doubt that DAN Government under the leadership of Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio have been progressing well in all round development within the state, at the same time we should also remember that a development cannot be carried out overnight in every loops and corner.

I therefore appeal to the Mokokchung Town citizens as well as all the Nagas including the administrator and government servant not to politicize or communalize the public grievances by asking someone to ‘go to Kohima and bring some funds’ but let us respond and redress it together in a civilize language and get development instead of threatening one another.
