Revoke the regularization of contingency medical officers: NVCO

Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) on Saturday said that the June 19 Cabinet meeting failing to review the regularisation of 27 contingency medical officers posts was a clear case of “backdoor appointment, discrimination, nepotism and highly unconstitutional.”

In a press release on June 20, NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi, questioned if the state government intended to regularize the “present invitation for filling up of the existing vacancies of the 36 posts of Medical Officer/Junior Specialist on contingency basis for a period of 12 months.”

Further, the NVCO said it was ‘confused’ as to why the state cabinet is “still demanding the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department to prepare a comprehensive report for the cabinet,” and claimed that it is “just an excuse in order not to admit their conduct of illegality.”

“Cabinet must not mixed up backdoor appointment with others. The Cabinet simply failed to honour the voice of the people where several organisations/associations/federation including Nagaland In-service Doctors’ Association(NIDA), Nagaland Medical Students’ Association(NMSA), NVCO, NEAN, Dimapur District Village Council Chairman’s Association(DDVCCA), NSF, Nagaland Junior Doctors’ Association(NJDA), ACAUT Nagaland, etc., demands for review/revocation of the 27 contingency Medical Officers,” the NVCO stated.

It reminded the state government that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench had on August 3, 2018 directed the State Government not to appoint and regularise services of employees who had completed three years of continuous service on contract/ad-hoc basis. “The state government had filed an appeal in this regard but rejected and therefore, the cabinet decision in regularisation of serving contractual and contingency medical officers amounts to contempt of court,” it claimed.

As such, the NVCO asked the cabinet to review/revoke the regularisation of 19 serving contractual and 27 contingency medical officers as demanded by ACAUT Nagaland, “failing which it may be compelled to approach the Court for the interest of justice.”
