
Dimapur, October 6 (MExN): The Right to Information (RTI) week is being celebrated across Nagaland.
Dimapur: The district celebrated RTI week on October 6 at DC Office Conference Hall, Dimapur with the theme ‘RTI & the role of citizen.’
According to a DIPR report, speaking at the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS spoke on the importance of the Act and asked the HoOs to be sincere in their duty and maintain transparency and accountability for good governance.
Earlier, PowerPoint presentation on RTI Act was presented by SDO (C) & APIO Dimapur, Kemciyile and also a short documentary on RTI was also screened.
The programme was invoked by Pastor, Covenant Baptist Church, YabangLongkumer. The programme was chaired by ADC & PIO Dimapur, Albert Ezung.
Wokha: Right to Information (RTI) week was celebrated at Wokha at Conference Hall, DC Office Wokha on October 6. DC Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS delivering the keynote address stated that RTI Act is to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government, and if utilized in the right perspective it will make government functions more effective. He also said it is a tool to make the public aware about their rights.
EAC Wokha, Arhomo Yanthan while giving a power point presentation emphasized on the objective of the Act where he stated that RTI Act is to create a practical regime of Right to Information for citizens to secure transparency and accountability of public authorities, to contain corruption, to create a statutory right to information in every citizen.
Highlighting about the benefits of the Act, he also added that by using the RTI Act we can take the initiative in making sure that the government provides with the services we are entitled to as a citizen of India such as electricity and water connection, ration cards, subsidies, attendance of government officials and details of grants etc.
In this way RTI Act empowers by giving voice to the people, making aware of their rights and entitlements, promotes transparency and accountability in government functioning, act as a deterrent against indulging in malpractices/corruption and improving government service-delivery among others.
Later screening of short RTI film titled “My Right, My Voice” was done.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto district observed RTI week at conference hall, DC Office Zunheboto. Speaking at the function, the Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Shanavas C, IAS said that everyone has the right to get information, RTI is a good thing if we use it judiciously, RTI should be used in the right way and it should not hamper the government, rather it should aid the government. A power point presentation on RTI was displayed by SDO (Civil) Sadar, Ajit K. Ranjan, IAS. Later a film on ‘My Right, My Voice’ was screened. Students from 7 schools and colleges, teachers and NGOs attended the programme. The programme was chaired by Vekhoyi Chakhesang, PIO and ADC Zunheboto.
Mon: Celebration of Right to Information week was held on October 6 at Council hall Mon. The keynote address was given by SDPO Mon, Vrinda Shukla, IPS. She explained the role of RTI and usages by its citizens, the main objectives of RTI is transparency and accountability. Screening of movie and PowerPoint presentation on RTI was highlighted by Asst. Commissioner Mon, Dharam Raj, IAS. Miss Mon 2018, Easter also spoke on the role of RTI. The function was attended by District Administrative Officers, HoOs, NGOs, Ward Presidents and students from various schools. The function was chaired by EAC Mon (P), Iloilung Chuilo.
Awareness prog at Kohima on Oct 9
ADC Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa has informed that along with the rest of the country, Kohima District is celebrating RTI Week which is scheduled from October 5 to 12. In this regard, the District Administration will be conducting a one day awareness programme under the theme ‘RTI and the role of citizens’ with the citizens including activists, students, media, NGOs etc of Kohima District on October 9 at 3: 00 pm onwards at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall.
