RMSA teachers to resume protest on September 15

Kohima | September 12

As the sit-in protest of the RMSA Teachers’ Association entered the fifth day on September 12, it has warned that its ongoing agitation may escalate into a hunger strike. RMSA spokesperson Renbemo L. Patton said teachers’ patience is running out after almost a week of protests without any positive response from the government.

“Our members are getting impatient. After waiting for such a long time, the only excuse they have is the review petition. This is unacceptable. If justice is not delivered now, it will mean justice is denied to the teachers,” he said.

Patton informed that the association’s core committee and executives are in discussions about intensifying the agitation, including the possibility of a hunger strike. “It is not finalised yet. But there is no turning back unless our demand is met,” he stated.

Meanwhile, today the Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has extended its full support to the agitation. The SKK President, who joined the protest, said the RMSA teachers were on the right path and urged the government to act before the situation spirals out of control. He also assured of its support in whatever possible way.

Meanwhile, the RMSA agitation will resume on Monday at Nagaland Civil Secretariat, informed Patton.
