RNPC denounces reformation of the ASDC Rengma Region

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Rengma Naga Peoples’ Council (RNPC), the apex council of the Rengma Nagas in Assam, has censured the reported “reformation/revival of the ASDC Rengma Regional Committee Reformation” during an “unofficial” programme at Silonijan, Karbi Anglong on July 30.

In a press release on Wednesday, the RNPC claimed that “few selfish individuals” had represented the Rengma Nagas without the council’s consent or consultation and said “The act of declaring Rengma Region as an official organ of Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) by few individuals amount to betrayal of the Rengma Nagas’ trust in its members.”

“The Rengma Nagas has never mandated any individuals or groups to represent us in the political front to demand for an Autonomous State so far and we do not endorse any such moves without the proper consultation of the Rengma people, Rengma Students Community, the Rengma youth community and the various civil society organisations of the Rengma Nagas in Assam,” the statement read.

As such, the RNPC “completely dissolves the so formed committee and disowns any resolutions adopted by the so called revived ASDC Rengma region and calls for an unconditional apology from all the participating individuals in the said programme,” it stated.

Further, the RNPC cautioned the leaders of ASDC party to refrain from conducting unofficial political meetings with Rengma individuals for whatsoever reasons without taking the apex bodies into confidence.

“We the Rengma Naga Peoples’ of Assam sees this incident as a threat to our political will and social welfare and shall not tolerate such insolence in the future,” the release stated.
