Maligaon, February 23 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 40 minors and two women from various stations between February 1 and 14, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking, protect runaway children, and prevent exploitation.
The rescued individuals were handed over to Child Line, non-governmental organizations, parents, and local police for proper care and rehabilitation, NFR officials said.
Among the rescues, a 17-year-old girl was reunited with her guardian after being rescued from Kokrajhar Railway Station on Feb. 2. In a separate operation on Feb. 5, five runaway boys from West Bengal and Bihar were rescued at Kishanganj Railway Station and placed under the care of Child Line. Another major rescue took place at Katihar Railway Station on Feb. 12, where five more minors were taken into protective custody and handed over to Child Line for support and assistance.
The RPF has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable passengers, particularly women and children, across its network. Officials urged travelers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities by contacting the RPF helpline at 139.
