The Republican Party of India (A), which has its roots in the scheduled caste federation led by BR Ambedkar, on Thursday announced the formation of the Nagaland state committee at a press conference held at Hotel Acacia.
The RPI (A) Nagaland State unit is led by Mughato Aye as president, Diana Swu as mahila president and Hamjong Jesuhu as youth president.
RPI (A) Chief convenor, North East, Hitesh Deori, who is also president of the party’s Assam state unit, informed that the appointment of Mughato Aye was made by RPI national president and Union minister of state, Ramdas Athawale on October 4 last.
Deori said with the formation of the Nagaland state committee, the RPI has established it’s based in all the northeastern states. He said in the NE, the party was first launched in Assam in 2016 and the party fielded 23 candidates in the then assembly election.
Deori also informed that the formal launching of the party in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland by the party’s national president is scheduled in the month of December.
The newly appointed RPI Nagaland president said the entry of a political party with special focus on the welfare of STs/SCs and minorities would be ideal for a tribal state like Nagaland. Mughato expressed his willingness to work and serve in a political party with secular credentials and said one of the guiding principles of the party is that all Indians are equal before the law, entitled to equality and that the party strives to foster equality where it exist and uphold it where it is denied.
He said in Nagaland, the party’s main focus would on the youth and women empowerment and urged those in the age group 20-45 years to join the party to fulfill their dreams and aspirations. The state president also said the RPI party fully supports the ongoing Naga peace talks and Framework Agreement for a lasting solution to the Naga issue.
The party’s mahila president Diana exuded confidence that the RPI party would provide a platform for women to realize their talents and potentials. She said though all political parties talk and give tall assurances of women empowerment, yet most parties fail to implement it in letter and spirit.
