Rs 1.5 crore worth gold biscuits seized in Manipur

Newmai News Network Imphal | April 24   Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Division, Imphal today arrested an alleged gold smuggler and seized as many 30 gold biscuits worth of Rs 1.5 crore of market value from the possesion of the alleged smuggler at Khurai Lamlong Bazar in Imphal East district.   Speaking to media persons at Custom Division, Imphal, Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar Darendrajit Singh said that the apprehendee has been identified as one Md Yasin, 39, son of Rahamat, of Sangai Yumpham, Thoubal district, Manipur. The incident occurred at Khurai Lamlong area at around 9 am.   Rajkumar Darendrajit Singh produced the seized items and the alleged smuggler in front of media persons at Custom Division, Imphal. The officer said, “ Acting on some information, we have been keeping vigilant for the last four consecutive days to trace the smuggler." He added that the succeeded this  morning. "We are taking up further investigations on the matter to find out whether the accused has his associates.
