With “Sustainability and Introspection” as the main focus of the celebration, the Southern Angami Gazetted Officers Krotho (SAGOK) commemorated its 25 years here today at Bamboo Hall, Kisama.
Chairing the program, Nosazol Charles shared concerns about sustainability which has become a global concern and the highlighted the need for the organisation to initiate plans for the common good.
The theme session of the celebration focused on two topics i.e. Sustainability and Introspection and Engineer-in-chief Khüpi Natso Er. Khüpi Natso and Commissioner& Secretary to the GoN, Menükhol John shared their thoughts on theme respectively.
Speaking on the topic ‘Introspection’ the Commissioner& Secretary to the GoN, Menükhol John urged the SAGOK members to sharpen their axe and work for the coming generation with renewed vigour.
Introspecting on the abundant blessings bestowed on the Southern region such as the rich flora and fauna, landscape, natural resources besides the national highway and the educational institutions, John noted that some parts within Nagaland are yet to have connectivity even after 53 years of statehood.
John maintained that the southern Angamis are neither advance nor better than any other people but they have the collective wisdom which was inherited from the forefathers.
He cited Southern Angami Board of Trustee (SABT), known as the exchequer of the area, as an example of the unique institution in Nagaland which was established through the collective wisdom of the people.
The Commissioner& Secretary further challenged the SAGOK members to frame its vision in order to forge ahead, adding that it is the responsibility of the Krotho to pass the baton to the next generation.
Speaking on the essence of sustainability, Engineer-in-chief Khüpi Natso stated that the forefathers had the practice of planning for the whole in order to overcome any unforeseen circumstances.
However the opposite is practiced in the present scenario where many Nagas are giving up their lands in pursuit of government jobs and subsidies from the government, he pointed out.
Even after 50 years of statehood, we live in a welfare state which means we are more or less the consumer state, opined Natso stressing that the state does not have any sustainable program except the Likimro project.
“We have to change our mindsets and be ready to go back to nature in order to sustain the lands and the community,” Natso emphasised adding that the first step to sustainability is to sensitise the people and further practice enforcement of the system and usage of the law of the land while striving to promote sustainability in our area.
In the inaugural session exhortations were delivered by Er. Vikho-o Yhoshü, MLA, and Er. Kropol Vitsu shared their concerns for the SAGOK and the community.
Upholding the Organisation as a ‘Think tank’ group and trailblazers of the community, Yhoshü urged the SAGOK to lead the people towards progressive initiatives, to generate visionary ideas, and moderate and temper whenever the situation requires.
SAGOK must also help the community to unlearn and re-learn as times may require of us, viewed Yhoshü who encouraged the members present to speak honestly and share openly and plan for the people. Er. Kropol Vitsu, MLA appealed the Krotho to educate and support the villages in the region particularly in the area of education and professions. The 25 years celebration magazine was released by Dr. Neiketou Kiso, President, SAPO.
The celebration also remembered and paid homage to the pioneers and founding members of the organisation in 1991. A prayer was invoked by Pastor Rokovilie Zashümo, Baptist Church Phesama while the General Secretary report was shared by Shürhovol Naleo.
