Folk-fusion band Sariwar premiered the music video of its debut eponymous single at Aroma Café, Mokokchung, on October 31.
‘Sariwar’ refers to warriors, particularly symbolising the act of going to or returning from battle.
Hosting the event, Apen Tanujang said, “Tonight, we gather not just to watch a video but to witness a story, a celebration, a homecoming,” adding that Sariwar symbolises not the battle itself, but “the return, the homecoming, the joy of victory and the embrace of community.”
Sharing the band’s vision and journey, frontman and vocalist Asung Imchen highlighted that Sariwar was formed in 2023 by manager Sentiwapang and guitarist Jonathan Lemtur with the aim to unite people through music that transcends cultural boundaries.
“Our debut song, Sariwar, is a victory song. Though fictional, it is a tribute to our forefathers and the warriors who fought for our rights,” he said.
Imchen further noted that the song blends traditional and contemporary elements, reflecting the rich diversity of Naga culture and heritage.
Introducing the band members, the band frontman acknowledged the contributions of other band member Jonathan Lemtur (guitarist), Temjen Lemtur (guitarist), Wapang Jamir (bassist), Avizo Solo (drummer).

He also expressed gratitude to Ali Imsong of Resilience Studio, Mokokchung, where the song was recorded; to Solo for co-producing, mixing, and mastering the track; and to Tsungchi and Yanger Longkumer for cinematography.
He appreciated Amongla for makeup and special effects, as well as the actors, sponsors, and supporters of the music video.
Special guest, Chubatoshi, Executive Engineer, PWD, Government of Nagaland, commended the band for choosing a culturally resonant theme.
“Our culture, customs, and history will connect people to this music. The band has chosen something very unique,” he remarked.
Encouraging wider support, he added, “Sariwar will go out not to hunt heads, as in ancient times, but to hunt for hearts. It will be a good outreach mission for the Nagas to go hunting for souls through this music.”
Expressing optimism for the band’s future, he said, “I wish a very successful and pleasant journey for the band members. The feelings of our ancestors will come alive, and that is a terrific feeling.”
The music video has been uploaded on the band’s official YouTube channel, @Sariwarband, on November 1.
