Satakha villages call for delimitation review

Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): Taking cognizance that Satakha areas specific to Ghukiye block and Nanu village are being ‘adjusted’ with Aghunato and Atoizu constituency respectively, the Bs Association of Satakha Area have ‘appealed’ to the Delimitation Commission to review the ‘draft proposal’ or “we shall not be held responsible for any untoward incidents in case of retaliation.”

A note from the association’s general secretary, Khevishe, GB, explained that Satakha was established in 1943 comprising the villages of Nanu, Tukunasa, Ghukiye, Nikuto, Kulhopu, Zungti and Xukhepu with “proper and mutual understanding of their common ancestral affinity, historical background, geographical unity, socio-economic and political integrity.”  However, the above villages were later learnt to have been ‘arbitrarily disintegrated’ into Atoizu and Aghunato constituencies respectively. On this, the association asked the Election Commissioner to review the ‘draft proposal’ “lest it hurts the sentiments of our people and cause discontentment and resentment.”

The association forwarded the following points: Ghukiye block and Saptiqa block has “natural topographical boundaries” with Satakha constituency with road and communications accessibility. However, these communications are not “feasible with either Atoizu or Aghunato area.” The association then asked the commission to personally verify or undertake Arial survey “for authentic proof.”

36 A/c Satakha along with Saptiqa “is naturally demarcated” by Tapu river in the north-west and Tizu river in the east and to be dividing the aforesaid villages “would be forcibly pushing them into an alien domain.”

On these points the association denounced the ‘Draft Proposal’ of the delimitation Commission and called for prompt review. The villages should not be held responsible for any untoward eventualities in case of “retaliation,” the association cautioned.
